Alta Loma High School Music Program employs a talented and diverse staff of professionals to provide top quality education to your students. Our extremely capable and gifted professional staff lead many distinctive sections and ensembles in our program. Their ability to teach our students new skills helps them grow musically, artistically, and emotionally. The success of our program is, in part, a result of our professional staff’s efforts to bring out the very best in each student.
Rudy Ruiz-Visual Caption Head
RUDY RUIZ was a performer on contrabass with Pacific Crest from 2008-2009 and Cavaliers from 2010-2011. Rudy has taught the visual programs at several high school bands in Southern California including, South Hills, Azusa, Gahr, Sunny Hills, Gladstone, and is currently teaching at Monrovia and La Canada High Schools as visual caption head. Rudy has served as a tech on the visual staff of Pacific Crest from 2012-2015 and moved into an Assistant Caption Head role for 2016-2017. He then took on the role of Visual Caption Head in 2018 and continues to serve that position. In addition to teaching Pacific Crest, Rudy also had the privilege of teaching on the Cavaliers visual staff from 2013-2015. When he’s not teaching bands or drum corps, Rudy works as a freelance Cinematographer, Camera Assistant/Operator on independent features, short films, and music videos in Los Angeles, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada
David Miranda-Percussion Caption Head/Battery Arranger
This is David’s 7th year with Alta Loma High School as the Percussion Caption Head and Battery Arranger. David Miranda is a full-time percussion educator, writer, and designer based in Southern California.
Currently, he is the percussion caption head and arranger for Gold Drum and Bugle Corps. Over the years, his groups have accumulated many percussion awards, some recents include the SCSBOA 4A Championships High Percussion Award (Alta Loma HS 2017) and two WGI Championship Gold Medals (Chino Hills HS 2015, 2017 & 2018). Some of his previous High School programs include Rancho Cucamonga High School, Upland High School, and Colony High School, where he served as a Battery Technician for the Fall programs and Battery Technician/Visual Designer for the Winter Programs.
His drum corps member experiences include groups such as SoCal Dream, Pacific Crest, Santa Clara Vanguard, and the Phantom Regiment. He has taught with The Troopers, The Santa Clara Vanguard, The Blue Stars, and Gold Drum and Bugle Corps.
His indoor experience includes 4 seasons of Pulse Percussion as a member from 2007-2010, receiving the WGI Gold Medal for his age out performance. He also served as a section leader for his last two years. He was then back with Pulse on staff for 3 years from 2011-2013 as the bass tech.
As a percussionist, Dave is currently performing in the Kellogg Percussion ensemble, the Cal Poly Pomona Wind Ensemble, as well as the Cal Poly Jazz Ensemble. He also conducts the concert band at Alta Loma High School during the winter/spring semester.
Dave is proud to be a member of the Vic Firth and Zildjian Education Team. He also proudly endorses Remo Drumheads.
Dave currently lives in Chino Hills, CA and is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education at Cal Poly Pomona.
Armando Luis Duenas-Brass
.ARMANDO LUIS DUENAS is the Band Director and Chair for the Visual and Performing Arts Department at Aquinas High School in San Bernardino, CA. He was born and raised in Baldwin Park, California, and now resides in the city of Azusa. Armando received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and a Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting from Azusa Pacific University. As an educator, Armando has worked with a variety of high schools throughout Southern California as a visual and brass technician. These schools include Rowland, Azusa, Chino Hills, Sierra Vista, Alta Loma, Monrovia, and Gladstone. Armando has also given clinics to jazz bands such as University of Riverside Jazz Band. Aside with teaching, Armando has been an adjudicator for the San Bernardino County Regional Honor Band. Armando has also served as a brass tech with Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps since 2016. Armando is also a freelance bass trombonist in the greater Los Angeles area having toured the country and performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall, John F. Kennedy Center, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Armando has performed along side of notable personalities such as Jimmy Burgess, Dale Kristien, Pat Boone, Richard Sherman, Wierd Al, Edward Asner, June Lockheart, and Danny Woodburn.
